CWA Members Take Action Now!!!
On June 2, 2008, the State of Ohio Controlling Board is set to vote to replace current Gtech with a foreign company named Intralot as provider of eequipment and services of the Ohio Lottery.
Gtech is a company based in Providence, Rhode Island, and has been the vendor since 1985, and it uses telephone circuits to transport data from the Lottery machines at over 8300 retail locations.
The new vendor, Intralot, plans to use satellites to transport data frm the retail lottery locations.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, Gtech was rated #1 in 6 out of 9 areas evaluated. Intralot, which rated #1 in only one area, got the contract. The Lottery Commission says Intralot will save 200 million dollars over 10 years.
Saving money by bypassing Ohio companies and bypassing Ohio workers by using a foreign company is OUTSOURCING, NOT SAVING!!!
The loss of these 8300+ Lottery Circuits will have a negative effect on the income and job security of the CWA telephone workers statewuide who specialize in installing, maintaining and repairing these lottery circuits.
QUESTIONS WE SHOULD BE ASKING:
- Why, when the goal is to bring and keep jobs in Ohio, are we awarding a contract to a vendor that has a plan that will put Ohio workers at risk?
- Should the State of Ohio award contracts to companies that do not employ Ohioans?
- How secure from hackers is this satellite system?
- Will bad weather and sunspots negatively affect satellite performance?
- Right now, we have CWA members in every town across Ohio working for many different telecom providers and who are dedicated to maintaining and repairing lottery circuits withing a minute's notice. How can Intralot offer even close to this kind of service, should the system fail?
- What ever happened to BUY OHIO?
Please, call the Politicians listed below and advise them that you want the Intralot contract voted down because it hurts the working men and women of CWA in Ohio.
