COMMUNICATIONS WORKERS OF AMERICA
REPORT OF THE JUDGES
Once again this year, CWA’s Local Union Newsletter Awards Competition provided a unique glimpse into the collective life of America’s Information Age Union. Spanning the past year, the entries highlight a period that was marked by a huge membership mobilization effort surrounding the 2004 elections as well as numerous highlights from the other two sides of the CWA Triangle – organizing and membership representation. While communicating different aspects of the CWA story, the hundreds of newsletter pages reviewed by the judges all share a common base – they portray a union on the move . . . a union whose members are united in their quest for a better life, innovative in their approach and resolute in their commitment to the principles of trade unionism. CWA’s team of Local editors and writers are to be commended for the countless hours they log to bring the union’s story to life for members of the CWA family in thousands of communities across America. Their work is important and their words underscore CWA’s reputation as the Community Minded Union and enhance its position as a union leading the way for the labor movement, both domestically and internationally.
